How can coffee benefit your work environment?
The Coffee Bean
As most of you know, coffee is a brewed drink that comes from a ‘bean’ which is actually the seeds of the red, juicy, cherry-like coffee fruit also known a coffee-berries. They are mostly cultivated in Brazil, Colombia, and Vietnam, to name a few. Coffee is the single largest source of antioxidants for many people. Studies have showed that coffee drinkers have a lower risk of conditions like type 2 diabetes, neurological disorders, and liver diseases.
But how can berry seeds have a positive impact in an office space?
For many employees, coffee has become part of their daily routine. To some, it is a necessary fuel needed to get through the workday. By adding a coffee machine to the office, you are not adding a perk, but giving employees more benefits that come along with it.
Having a cup of coffee can lead to breaking down social barriers but can also help to release tension when necessary. True coffee lovers consider drinking coffee as an experience. A coffee break can help fellow co-workers to catch up, especially if they have been stuck at their desk all day. Having that onsite coffee break can create a positive energy in the office. A study found that coffee breaks can create cohesion, where co-workers feel like family. Gathering around the coffee machine can lead to bonding; ideas and conversations can be shared which lead to creativity.
What about the caffeine?
Drinking caffeine can help employees stay focused and concentrate better when they are working. It can also help to stay awake because it increases their brain activity and causes an energy boost. Right after lunch break, we all get that midday slump feeling. Sure, coffee can’t wake people up, but it can stop that drowsy feeling. When people feel better, they produce better.
On the other hand, too much caffeine can also have a negative impact such as anxiety, insomnia, fast heartbeat and more. Several sources suggest that 400 mg of caffeine per day (equivalent to 4 cups) of coffee is safe for most healthy adults.
Have tea lovers in your office?
Don’t exclude them from this experience! Make a nice tea corner with some brewing equipment and several types of tea, either loose or in bags. To make it an even better experience, plant some fresh herbs outside your office such as mint or lemongrass, which allows your co-workers to freshly brew an even healthier tea.
